The Wok: A Complete and Easy Guide to Preparing a Wide Variety of Authentic Chinese Favorites
Published in Paperback by Bristol Pub Enterprises (June, 1982)
Authors: Gary Lee and Mike Nelson
Average review score:

The best darn Chinese Cook book
in english. Simply put it explains in plain english the basic philosophy the Chinese have towards food, cooking and meals. The recpies are simple but the underlying principles behind the recpies are clearly demonstrated thanks to Mike Nelson's drawings. I got a used copy for fifty cents. Good luck finding a copy.

Women and Politics Worldwide
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (May, 1994)
Authors: Barbara J. Nelson, Najma Chowdhury, and Najama Caudhuri
Average review score:

Must-have resource on women and politics
On a scale of 10, this book rates and eleven! It is the first of its kind to include essays on countries from North America to Nepal, Kenya to Korea. It sets the standard for future international and comparative research on women and politics. A monumental work co-edited by a U.S. and a Bangladeshi scholar, it provides the first ever collection of incisive articles about women in politics in 43 countries, each chapter written by women scholars, activists, and officials in that country. Each chapter first presents a useful snapshot of political, demographic, educational, and economic data on women; handy summary tables provide easy comparison across countries in each topical area. However, chapters are not written in cookbook style; rather, each author addresses the unique historical and current political issues most salient to women in her country, from rural development to democratization, health to headscarves. Four introductory chapters give excellent orientations to the conceptual framework, research design, methodology, data collection procedures. The framework introduces important concepts in the study of women and politics, such as nationalism, international economic forces, the women's movement, formal and informal politics, women's issues, and women's gender ideologies and action strategies. A lively, accessible work, no one who is interested in women and politics should be without it

Word 2002 from A to Z: A Quick Reference of More Than 300 Microsoft Word Tasks, Terms and Tricks
Published in Paperback by Redmond Technology Press (15 June, 2001)
Author: Stephen L. Nelson
Average review score:

Excellent coverage
Perhaps the most handy reference collection we have seen come through our ProCert Labs, Stephen L. Nelson's From A To Z collection of quick reference guides really hits the spot. If you are using a Microsoft Office product (and if you are not: its time you bought yourself a computer), this handy reference guide will prove indispensable.

Stephen L. Nelson has been writing quick reference guides for some time now, and it shows in this series. Organized alphabetically, each guide excludes an index because, after all, it is one. The navigation is easy and gets right to the point. I looked up "Selecting Text" and learned that there are six different ways to do so. I discovered each of the six ways in less than half a page; a testament to the concise and straightforward instruction in store for every reader.

And don't let me fool you; the information available in each guide addresses the complex as well as the mundane. You will find quick reference tidbits on everything from Autoformatting (a bane to every Word user) to managing Text Formulas in Excel (which most of us would use if we knew they existed.)

For you Access jockeys, having the Access 2002 From A To Z quick reference at hand will make Applying Filters as easy as cooking with Ron Popeil. The finer points of PowerPoint are described in understandable detail, and if you are looking to quell your questions about Outlook, you will find them the fastest in this quick reference.

Bonus Situation: MOUS. Aside from being a valuable desktop reference, each quick reference guide includes information about passing the Microsoft Office User Specialist exam, and promises that the guide includes all the information you will need to pass the test. Our quick review confirmed this, making these books an excellent choice for those of you who are working toward MOUS certification.

The current series of quick reference guides includes:

Word 2002 From A To Z
Excel 2002 From A To Z
PowerPoint 2002 From A To Z
Access 2002 From A To Z
Outlook 2002 From A To Z
Windows 2002 From A To Z

Each quick reference is about 200 pages, with the exception of the Windows XP quick reference, which tops out at 250. Under twelve bucks apiece, you can't miss with any one of the From A To Z quick references from Redmond Technologies Press. Each book individually provides excellent coverage of every function of its technology, and the entire collection represents a comprehensive must have for anyone who relies on the MS Office suite for advanced productivity.

Wordperfect 8 for Busy People: The Book to Use When There's No Time to Lose (Busy People Series)

WordPerfect 8 for Busy People by Elden Nelson
Fantastic book! I take it with me wherever I go and just ordered 8 more for my computer MIS Section Leader Group. I teach WordPerfect 8.0 to my staff and found this book to be an invaluable tool. There is just so much to learn....this book has allowed me to take WordPerfect 8.0 wherever I go. The LARGE print, colors, and easy outlines let you understand a topic by simply glancing at the text and accompanying pictures or screens....And, each chapter has a "FAST FORWARD" describing the contents and very brief "How To's" so that you only need to refer to the chapter for minor details. If you're a WordPerfect 8.0 user, this is a must have! I never thought I would sit on a beach chair and read a technical book but the way this book was written and put together, it is actually enjoyable and fun! Do yourself a favor and get it!

Workers on the Waterfront: Seamen, Longshoremen, and Unionism in the 1930s (Working Class in American History Series)
Published in Paperback by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (December, 1990)
Author: Bruce Nelson
Average review score:

a must read for labor historians
If you got to this review, buy this book. There are a few problems. Nelson could have spent more research taking the longshoremen's perspective into account. Nonetheless, his research is solid and this is a must for those interested in the Great Depression, San Francisco or labor history. Nelson account is the most complete research on the subject during this era. I only wish he had devoted more time to the East Coast.

Working High Magick
Published in Paperback by Technology Group (May, 1995)
Author: Nelson H. White
Average review score:

Value for money!
This book is excellent value for money and covers most details of 'High Magick' by explaining what high magick is and there are lots of spells and charms inside this book and I think I spied a couple of bits of black magick in it which I know lots of people are interested in. I did not buy this book from amazon but got it from a little corner shop somewhere in Scotland and paid well over [...]for it which is probably about [...]. Almost everything inside it is useful and the ingredients of some of the charms or spells could probably be bought in your local supermarket! It is a weighty book (at least 2"-3" thick) and covers every spell imaginable and how to reverse hexes or curses which are placed on you. Anyone who buys this book should know that I have tried a few of the spells concealed in here and they work! If you are reading this review-BUY THIS BOOK! IT IS WORTH [...]! I have a couple of other books by Nelson.H.White and each and every one of them are interesting! I would also recommend these type of books by Gillian Kemp and Pamela Ball. I beg anyone who reads this review again to BUY THIS BOOK! And any-one who writes a review on it to give it 5 stars! If I could write 1,000 words on this book then I would. I will leave you all now with a "low magic" spell which has been world-widely been proven to work

Rain spell

stare up at the clouds and imagine rain falling heavily to the ground while chanting these words

"Ancient gods and goddesses, I invoke thee, waters from the sky, Let it be"

"I command thee now, To thee all, listen to my desire, Rain fall!"

in 10 minutes it will begin to rain but if there are no clouds in the sky you will have to say it a few times over and when clouds come (in about half an hour)you will need to repeat it again a few times.

World's Greatest Direct Mail Sales Letters
Published in Hardcover by Ntc Business Books (January, 1996)
Authors: Herschell Gordon Lewis, Carol Nelson, and Hershell G. Lewis
Average review score:

Direct Mail Sales Letter "Templates"
As a direct mail copywriter, this book is one of my top resources. Here are 96 of the all-time best selling direct mail letters. (My only criticism is that I had to count the number of letters because it was not listed.) Before each letter, the editors explain the challenge, the solution, and their comments.

These letters contain ideas and patterns that can be "borrowed" as templates. How would you like your letter to be patterned after one that brought $1B in sales to American Express?

The chapters are conveniently divided by product or service category: Subscriptions, Collectibles, Products, Books, Financial Services and Investments, Memberships, B2B, Personal Services and Insurance, and Fund Raising. Do you need a letter to sell subscriptions? See how it was done by The Wall Street Journal, Worth Magazine, and others.

If you are involved in writing or publishing direct mail, this tool can only increase your R.O.I.

Www, Shadow of the Chameleon: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Press-Tige Pub Inc (November, 2001)
Authors: Stuart Nelson Speer and Stewart Speer
Average review score:

EXCELLENT MYSTERY!!!
This fun book is filled with twists and turns and has an exciting and SURPRISING ending. My son read this and so did I. The young hero (WWW) is real without being predictable and his two sidekicks are more than just reasons for dialog --they are fully-developed and interesting in their own right. I certainly hope there will be another one of these!
